I'm writing this in room 26 at
the Walgett Motel in beautiful downtown Walgett.
Its been a long day getting here: we didn't leave Uralla until
after 10 0'clock this morning as we spent some time looking
around the town (and a pretty little place it is). From there we
went to Bundarra (a sleepy little hamlet where we saw a total of
four people - all talking in a group), thence to Bingara (another
sleepy little hamlet - "the Gem of the Gwydir" - also a pretty
little place, with a few more people mooching about), then on to
Warialda - another pretty little place with a few more people and
finally on to Moree, a large regional centre with plenty of
people - whites and aborigines - mooching about, and where we had
a cuppa and some fruit cake and biscuits in a park.
From Moree it was on to Walgett, where we arrived about 5
o'clock, a total distance travelled for the day of 477 kms.
Had a simple meal at the local bowling Club for tea: hamburger
and chips, and T-bone steak with pepper sauce and chips - very
nice (best chips we have had for a long time).
Shower and early night tonight for an early start tomorrow for
Brewarrina, Bourke, and hopefully Milparinka and then Tibooburra
in the far north western corner of NSW.
