Not much news today, just driving, driving, driving from
Peterborough in SA to Cobar in NSW - a total distance of 740 kms
in 8 hours, with stops only at Broken Hill and Wilcannia for
fuel.
Weather overcast all the way with drizzle/showers/heavy showers,
and temperature varying from cold at Peterborough to warm
eastwards.
Countryside east of BH all very green and lush due to unseasonal
rains as already mentioned.
Had a look around Wilcannia. Pity this town has such a bad
reputation as I think it could have a lot of potential with a
go-ahead local council and chamber of commerce, and co-operation
between aborigines and whites to make it a natural and attractive
tourist stopover. Went to have a look at the hospital where
Patricia worked some years ago (?); pity about the awful cacky
green colour it is painted.
Thunderstorm which had been threatening for some time broke as we
were settling in to motel at Cobar.
Tomorrow head north to Bourke (again) then over the border to
Cunnamulla where I have been told there is a Mazda dealer and
book ute in for 260,000 km service. Will probably stay there for
a day or two until ute can be done. If no Mazda dealer there, may
go on to Charleville (another 200kms further north) and have it
done there.
