From marriage record of John Douglas and Jane Duncan 1876/001623.
Although John and Sophia appear to have married around 1844 (from Sophia's death record NSW BDM 3222/1877) their first recorded issue was William born in 1859, although the birth of their son John is believed to have occurred in about 1852. It seems very likely that there were a number of other children born in the period 1844-1859 whose births, like John's, were not registered.
