Spent the day doing a few things and generally quietly looking round Geraldton. Sent Andrew's birthday present off to him. Had ute hot pressure washed (this was the only way to shift all the mud and dirt stuck to it and you should have seen all the stuff that came off - half the Pilbara, I think). Went to the Geraldton Art Gallery - not much there. Had a look round the beautiful St Francis Xavier Cathedral (one of ours). Checked out railway station and lighthouse for photographic potential - will go to these tomorrow (need morning light).
Want to do a few more things tomorrow: Photograph lovely old railway station and lighthouse (providing light and weather OK); visit and photograph Cathedral of the Holy Cross (one of theirs); hopefully go for a swim in the Indian Ocean. Then off to Perth on Thursday.
Have been following with interest the progress of Tropical Cyclone Steve. It has been causing havoc at all the places we have been to - from western Queensland, through the Northern Territory and down WA coast. We were talking to a chap earlier who told us Geraldton had not had any rain since October. We were able to tell him confidently that as we were leaving on Thursday, Geraldton would be under water by the weekend.
