MADDEN, Hannah

Birth Name MADDEN, Hannah
Gender female
Age at Death about 90 years, 7 months, 14 days

Narrative

No definitive arrival date in Australia but very possibly arrived on the "Nabob" with her sister Rose Ann, both disembarking at Port Phillip in late December 1854. This vessel departed from Liverpool UK on 2 November 1854 and arrived in Sydney on 13 February 1855, the voyage taking 93 days. The ship called in to Port Phillip in late December 1854. The master was J R Coward and 519 immigrants were on board. There were no deaths on the voyage. According to the ship's passenger list Hannah was aged 20 and Rose Ann 18; Hannah's calling was shown as "Housemaid" and Rose Ann's as "Nursemaid"; both came from Belfast; their parents names were shown as Roger and Susan, with Roger being deceased and Susan living in Belfast (these names do not correspond with other records); they were both Roman Catholics, both could read and write; their bodily strength, health and usefulness were noted as "good". Both were assisted immigrants. No further record of Rose Ann has been found after her arrival in Australia, but her Christian name crops up in various branches of the family.
