Narrative

Sabina (aka Sibby, Libby or Sally) HIGGINS came to Australia in 1828 as a convict on the ship "City of Edinburgh" (James R Clendon, Master; William Anderson, Surgeon; Passage, 142 days). The vessel left Cork on 23 June 1828 with 80 female convicts on board and arrived in Sydney on 12 November 1828. Sabina was convicted at CASTLEBAR, County Mayo, of stealing calico and sentenced to 7 years transportation. She was described as "Age: 22; Height: 4'9"; Complexion: Ruddy; Hair: Brown; Eyes: Grey". Her native place was stated as County Mayo and her occupation was given as Dairymaid. She was assigned to a Mary Bigg of Patrick's Plains (now Singleton) NSW.
